Renaissance is the French word for rebirth. It is the time of change that happened in Europe between the 14th and 16th centuries.
The Sherpa People
Sherpas are people who live in the northeastern part of Nepal, in the valleys of the Himalaya Mountains. There are about 40,000 sherpas , many of whom live near Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
Endangered Species
An endangered species is a plant or an animal that faces a high risk of disappearing forever. Sometimes this happens because they have lost their natural habitat, at other times humans are the cause for such species becoming extinct.
Mosques
A mosque is a place where Muslims worship and pray to God. Some mosques are also places where Muslims get together and discuss things or where religious education takes place. In some countries mosques also serve political purposes and Imams discuss political issues.
The European Union
The European Union is a post – World War II project designed to secure peace in Europe. It was founded as the European Community for Coal and Steel in 1953 and became the European Economic Community through the Treaty of Rome in 1957. The EC has expanded many times in the last 60 years. Today it has 27 member states.
Electricity
Electricity is the flow of tiny charged particles, mainly electrons, through a conductor, like a wire. It creates an electric current that powers our many devices and machines that we have in our household, from lights to computers.
